Contract Attorney

Part-time, Flexible, Remote

We are looking for a Contract Attorney to review legal bills that our clients receive from their law firms.  This role is perfect for a licensed attorney who previously worked long hours at an AM Law 200 firm looking for something part-time and stress-free.  The nature of the work is ongoing and batched in projects, allowing flexibility in how you plan your work. This role requires a strong understanding of legal billing practices, attention to detail, and excellent analytical skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete the paid training course online.  Estimated to take 8 to 12 hours to complete.

  • 15 - 25 hours of weekly work

  • Analyze hourly legal bills and review for compliance with our client’s Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines

  • Uses the company’s proprietary software to complete tasks

  • Identify excessive or non-compliant charges on legal bills

  • Verify the accuracy of expenses and disbursements

  • Write persuasive narratives regarding why charges are excessive and/or non-compliant

  • Complete all work assigned within 3 business days

  • Attend monthly review sessions with the LegalBillReview.com Operations team to continuously improve the quality of your analysis 

Requirements:

  • U.S.-based licensed attorney 

  • 5+ years experience working at a large law firm that bills clients hourly

  • Strives to uphold the highest standards for compliant and ethical legal billing

  • Knowledgeable about legal work, internal law firm policies and practices, and legal billing

  • Extremely proficient with computer software and emerging technologies

  • Very detail-oriented

  • Comfortable reviewing and analyzing large amounts of data and performing data entry

  • A healthy amount of skepticism

  • Good sense of tact and personal diplomacy; good at persuading people without being pushy

  • Clear, concise, and polished writing skills

  • Pride and sense of ownership in one's work; the type of person who proofreads their own emails three times before hitting "send"
